Accessibility at Midland Lunar New Year Celebration 2026
The Midland Lunar New Year Celebration is proud to welcome the community to a space designed with accessibility and belonging at its core. This year’s celebration will take place at the Greater Midland Community Center, a venue thoughtfully equipped to ensure individuals and families of all abilities can fully participate in the festivities. Guided by a shared commitment to inclusion, the move to Greater Midland reflects the event’s dedication to creating a celebration where everyone feels comfortable, supported, and valued.
“At its heart, Lunar New Year is about togetherness,” says Kirsten Morey, LNY Committee Member. “Hosting the celebration at Greater Midland Community Center allows us to remove barriers and create an environment where all members of our community can connect, celebrate, and feel a true sense of belonging.”
To support an accessible and welcoming experience, the Midland Lunar New Year Celebration will offer the following features:
Sensory Space (in partnership with Disability Network of Mid-Michigan): A dedicated sensory-friendly room will be available throughout the event, providing a calm and supportive environment for individuals who may need a break from stimulation.
Zero-Curb Entry to All Activities: The Community Center features flat, step-free access throughout the building, ensuring all activities, performances, and vendor spaces are easily reachable.
Accessible Restrooms and Universal Changing Rooms: Inclusive restroom facilities are available to accommodate individuals and families.
Accessible Parking: Conveniently located accessible parking spaces provide close, easy entry to the building.
Automatic Doors: Seamless entry and full building access allow visitors to move freely and independently throughout the event space.
These features reflect a shared commitment between the Midland Lunar New Year Celebration and Greater Midland Community Center to ensure the event is a joyful, inclusive experience for all. We invite the community to join us in celebrating the Lunar New Year on February 21st, 2026 from 2-6pm in a space where accessibility fosters connection, comfort, and belonging.
