“Asset Day” to kick off Assets Across the Lifespan Project
The Legacy Center is launching the Assets Across the Lifespan project, a county-wide initiative designed to better understand the strengths and supports that help people thrive at every age. The project, which has been developed in partnership with Midland Area Wellbeing Coalition and Senior Services, will officially kick off on November 25, 2025, dubbed “Asset Day,” which is when online surveys will open to students, adults, and seniors across Midland County.
The initiative builds on the nationally recognized Developmental Assets® framework from Search Institute, which identifies the key building blocks of healthy youth development. For this project, The Legacy Center has expanded the scope to include three age groups:
Developmental Assets for teens® (ages 11–18)
Adult Thriving Assets for adults (ages 19–59)
Adult Thriving Assets: 60+ for older adults (ages 60+)
Students in grades 6–12 will complete the survey during school at all Midland County public and alternative schools. Parents were notified by a letter and received opt out instructions from their school. This will be the fifth time students have participated in the survey since 2005.
Adults and older adults are invited to participate by completing an online survey, available at https://www.tlc4cs.org/assets-across-the-life-span-project/. Paper surveys will be available in early 2026. This will be the third time older adults have been surveyed, and the first time for the Adult Thriving Assets survey.
Survey responses will provide valuable insights into the strengths, needs, and opportunities that exist within our community. The data will guide local schools, nonprofits, businesses, and government leaders in developing initiatives that will support people of all ages.
The project has received broad support from the community, with funding from the Gerstacker Foundation, Midland Area Community Foundation, Midland Area Youth Action Council, MyMichigan Health, Midland County ESA, Noon Rotary Community Needs Committee and Rotary Foundation, Corteva, and the Great Lakes Loons.
Community members can find additional details and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about the project at https://www.tlc4cs.org/assets-across-the-life-span-project/.
