Detroit Youth Choir Set to Shine at Midland Center for the Arts

I keep seeing clips of the Detroit Youth Choir floating around the internet, so when I heard they were coming to Midland I had to know more! Not only is their energy absolutely contagious, but their singing and dancing is nothing short of incredible! I was able to sit down with Alex Woody, Communications & Public Relations Manager for Midland Center for the Arts, to discuss the DYC’s upcoming performance on March 16th, 2024.

Love,
Max

Watch Detroit Youth Choir on America’s Got Talent

Max: Hi Alex! Thanks so much for meeting with me today. I am excited to talk about the Detroit Youth Choir and their incredible journey. Can you share with us why this choir is so special, when they will be at Midland Center, and how to get tickets?

Alex: Detroit Youth Choir is a non-profit organization that serves the youth throughout the Detroit Metropolitan area with a mission to foster a world-class performing arts experience to develop students' creative skills.

We are so excited for this incredible group to perform on the Auditorium Stage at Midland Center for the Arts on March 16th at 3 PM. It will be a celebration of how education and the arts can bring creativity and connection to young people at Midland Center for the Arts on March 16th at 3 PM. You can find tickets at midlandcenter.org/DetroitYouthChoir

M: I hear that all students (18 & under) can see the Detroit Youth Choir show for just $5.50! I love to see efforts to make the arts accessible to everyone in the community. I would love to hear about how that decision was made.

A: This was a decision made through the commitment of our event’s sponsor, the Dr. Andrea Louise Jenkins Endowed Fund for Cultural Enrichment. The Jenkins family and the Center wanted to ensure that the event was accessible for youth and families throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region. We hope that the event will inspire the children of our region to create lifelong bonds to the arts.

M: That is wonderful. The list of the Detroit Youth Choir's accomplishments is long! Tell us about some of the things they have been involved in.

A: Their program has received worldwide notoriety through different appearances. They reached second place in the 14th season of America's Got Talent and competed in the recent 2023 All-Stars season. They were also featured in the IMAX documentary America's Musical Journey, and they recorded backup vocals for the UK group The Go! Team’s 2018 album Semicircle. This year, they will star in the upcoming Disney+ documentary reality series Choir, premiering on January 31st.

M: Wow! That is quite a list! Finally, in your perspective, how does this event contribute to making Midland a place where all people can thrive, fostering a sense of community pride, and appreciation for the arts?

A: This fun event will create a space where people of all ages can come together, celebrate remarkable talent, and build a sense of unity and community through the shared experience of Michigander music and performance.

M: Thanks so much for your time today! I can’t wait to come see the Detroit Youth Choir Perform on March 16th!
