Midland County Department of Public Health Recognizes September as National Preparedness Month

This informational story was submitted by the Midland County Department of Public Health.

National Preparedness Month is observed each year in September. The purpose of National Preparedness Month is to raise community awareness on the importance of proactively preparing for disasters and emergencies.

The Midland County Department of Public Health is encouraging community members to take small steps throughout the month to make a big impact on long-term individual, family, and household preparedness.

To assist community members, a “Take Action Calendar” was created. This calendar provides simple, yet meaningful actions that can be done throughout the month to promote preparedness.

The calendar is a compilation of recommended steps and useful information from a variety of reliable resources, and aligns with the National Preparedness Goal to create "a secure and resilient nation with the capabilities required across the whole community to prevent, protect against, mitigate, respond to, and recover from the threats and hazards that pose the greatest risk " (National Preparedness Goal, 2015).

We wish you well on your preparedness journey, and encourage you to complete the accompanying survey at the close of the month to let us know about your journey and how we can further assist in the future.
