From Michigan to the Big Screen: The Team, Talent, and Determination Behind One Reckless Weekend
An independent film nearing the finish line after years of hard work is bringing together creative talent, community support, and a team determined to see their vision through.
A successful film is about more than the actors audiences see on screen. It is about the people who believe in a story before anyone else sees the finished product, the crew members who work long days behind the scenes, the people who solve problems when things go wrong, and the supporters who help keep a dream alive when the journey becomes difficult.
For the team behind One Reckless Weekend, that journey has taken years of commitment, tremendous effort, unexpected challenges, and unforgettable moments. Now, as the independent comedy approaches completion, the people behind the production deserve to have their story told.
This is a story about the film, but it is also about the people who refused to give up on it.
Isiah Barnes: The Vision Behind the Film
At the center of One Reckless Weekend is Isiah Barnes, the filmmaker who has taken on the demanding roles of writer, producer, director, and actor.
Bringing a film to life requires far more than developing a script. It takes securing resources, assembling a cast and crew, making creative decisions, coordinating production, and finding solutions to the challenges that inevitably arise along the way.
Barnes has continued to pursue his filmmaking vision through the demanding realities of independent production. His experience includes previous film projects and three Telly Awards, reflecting his work in the entertainment industry.
One Reckless Weekend represents another significant undertaking: a comedy brought to life through the collective efforts of people who have invested their time, talents, and energy into making the project a reality.
The film features recognizable talent, including Omar Gooding, Rodney Perry, and Richard Pryor Jr., bringing additional entertainment-industry experience to the production.
But the heart of a film cannot be measured by its cast list alone. It is also found in the people working behind the camera, often for long hours, to make every scene possible.
Cassidy Mosher: A Force Behind the Production
Every production has people whose contributions help keep the vision moving forward, even when the work becomes difficult.
Cassidy Mosher is one of those people. As a co-director, she has played an important role in the effort behind One Reckless Weekend. Her contribution deserves recognition alongside the work of Isiah Barnes and the entire production team.
Independent filmmaking demands collaboration. It takes people willing to step up, work through problems, support one another, and remain committed to the larger goal.
The people who help hold a production together deserve to be recognized not only for their individual responsibilities but also for the collective determination that carries a project toward completion.
Years of Work, Fourteen-Hour Days, and a Team That Kept Going
The road to completing One Reckless Weekend has not always been easy.
Over the past couple of years, the team has invested tremendous time and effort into bringing the film to life. Long filming days of approximately 14 hours, setbacks, difficult moments, and unexpected challenges have been part of the process.
There have also been extraordinary moments: creative breakthroughs, scenes that came together beautifully, and achievements that reminded everyone why the work mattered.
Like many independent productions, the journey has included both disappointments and victories. What stands out is the determination to continue despite the obstacles.
That commitment belongs to everyone involved.
It belongs to the cast members who bring the characters to life, the crew members who work behind the scenes, the production team coordinating the many moving parts, and the people whose contributions may never be visible to an audience watching the finished film.
It belongs to the individuals who show up, solve problems, share their skills, and help transform an idea into something real.
A film may have one central vision, but it takes an entire team to bring that vision to the screen.
As One Reckless Weekend approaches the finish line, this is an opportunity to recognize the people who have helped carry it through the difficult parts of the journey.
DesignerBarcia: A Lifetime in Fashion, Beauty, and Celebrity Industry Work
Another important part of this story is DesignerBarcia, a celebrity fashion and beauty designer with more than 30 years of experience across the fashion and beauty industries.
DesignerBarcia built her professional reputation through years of creative work, industry relationships, celebrity styling, and fashion development. She brought One Reckless Weekend valuable experience from an industry where preparation, presentation, talent coordination, and production demands are part of everyday life.
Her involvement with the film took on a different meaning after a life-threatening battle with COVID-19 and GBS.
She spent four months on a ventilator and survived an experience that changed her life. She continues to require oxygen around the clock. More recently, Guillain-Barré syndrome brought another serious health challenge, affecting her mobility and making even walking difficult.
Although she can no longer work on a film set as she once did, she has continued contributing her knowledge and experience to the production and helping connect the project with potential local supporters.
Rather than stepping away from the creative industries she loves, she has found new ways to participate.
Her recent work includes designing, and styling Celebrities at the Asian TV Awards, the Red Sea Film Festival, and the Cannes Film Festival. Her online fashion week expanded internationally this year, featuring on the Billboard in Time Square in New York City, is where the week started. Designer Ashley Garcia was on live in Rome, Germany, London and ending her FW in Paris. She was also recognized as a Top 5 Style Icon Fashion Designer for in connection with a fundraiser benefiting Elton John's charitable work.
For her, One Reckless Weekend is another way to put decades of experience to work while navigating a very different chapter of life.
Her story is a reminder that when circumstances change, a person's ability to contribute does not necessarily disappear. Sometimes the role changes, but the value of experience remains.
Why Midland Matters
The production also presents an opportunity for the Midland and Tri-Cities community to connect with independent filmmaking.
Filming has taken the team to Michigan locations, including Detroit, Frankenmuth, Silver Lake, Sand Dunes, and Midland with additional filming planned in the Saginaw area.
A production of this kind creates opportunities for local businesses and community members to become part of something that extends beyond a single filming day.
Local restaurants, grocery stores, businesses, service providers, photographers, and media outlets can help support the people doing the work. Their involvement can also create connections between local businesses and the entertainment industry.
For a smaller community, the opportunity to support a film with recognizable talent and an experienced production team is something residents and businesses can share in.
And when the finished film reaches audiences, those who contributed will have their own connection to the story behind it.
The Sponsors and Supporters Who Help Make It Possible
Behind every production are people and businesses who contribute in ways that help the work continue.
The team is seeking local food sponsors to help provide meals, groceries, snacks, beverages, and gift cards for cast and crew members working long days during the Midland-area filming dates of October 18, 25, 26, and 27, 2026. A few dates in Detroit with Omar Gooding in November and that's a wrap.
Food is one of the practical needs that can place a significant demand on an independent production's resources. Support from local businesses can help ease that burden and allow the team to focus on completing the work.
But community support is about more than food. It can include sharing the story, offering services, providing photography, helping with logistics, making introductions, or simply connecting the production with someone who can help.
Every contribution has a place in the larger effort, and the people who offer their time, resources, or professional skills deserve acknowledgment.
The team also hopes to organize a red-carpet appreciation event for sponsors, giving participating supporters an opportunity to attend, take photographs with members of the production, and celebrate their involvement.
The intention is to make sure that the businesses and individuals who help the project are recognized as part of its journey.
Every name, contribution, and partnership matters. The final sponsor acknowledgments should reflect the people and businesses who have participated and the specific support they have provided.
More Than a Movie: A Shared Accomplishment
As One Reckless Weekend moves toward completion, its story is also a story of perseverance.
It is about Isiah Barnes continuing to bring his creative vision to life. It is about Cassidy Mosher and the people working alongside him. It is about the cast, the crew, the production team, and everyone whose efforts have helped the project progress through years of work. The film crew, actors, makeup crew, fashion crew everything you don't see that brings the magic to the movie. It takes all of us to make greatness happen!
It is about DesignerBarcia finding a way to contribute her experience despite serious health challenges. It is about sponsors and supporters who recognize the value of helping independent creative work succeed.
And it is about the possibility that a production rooted in Michigan can create something that reaches far beyond the locations where it was filmed.
A small town does not need to be Hollywood to contribute to a meaningful film project. It needs people willing to participate, businesses willing to support local creativity, and a team willing to keep moving forward.
When the film is complete, the accomplishment will belong to everyone who helped make it happen.
The message behind One Reckless Weekend is simple: success is rarely the work of one person. It is built by people who bring their talents together, overcome challenges, and refuse to give up on what they believe they can accomplish.
As Midland prepares to welcome the next stage of filming, local businesses and community members have an opportunity to become part of that story.
