Brighter Horizons Counseling Begins a New Chapter in Midland

A longstanding pillar of mental health support in Midland has entered a new era. Brighter Horizons Counseling, formerly known as Behavioral Medicine Associates of Mid-Michigan, P.C., has officially unveiled its new name and direction as the practice continues to serve individuals and families with compassionate, community-focused care.

Founded more than 30 years ago by Dr. Lynn Simons, the clinic has been shaped by her unwavering dedication to accessible, person-centered mental health services. After decades of service to Midland and the greater region, Dr. Simons retired in December 2025, leaving a legacy of trust, care, and clinical excellence.

Earlier in 2025, the practice transitioned to new ownership under Angela DuBois, MA, LLP, who now leads Brighter Horizons Counseling with a deep appreciation for the foundation Dr. Simons built. “Her impact will continue to be felt throughout our work and the community we serve,” the team shared.

Angela is a Master’s level psychologist who earned her degree from the University of Detroit Mercy in 2008. She provides therapy services to adolescents and adults, with clinical focus areas including anxiety, depression, trauma, domestic violence recovery, and life transitions. With a strong passion for supporting survivors of interpersonal and domestic violence, as well as adolescents and young adults navigating identity, stress, and emotional challenges, Angela brings a trauma-informed and compassion-based approach to her work.

Her therapeutic style incorporates cognitive-behavioral strategies, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care, and she will complete EMDR training in early 2026. Angela strives to create an environment where individuals feel safe, empowered, and understood. In her work with trauma and domestic abuse survivors, she focuses on helping clients understand the dynamics of abuse, recognize its emotional and psychological impacts, rebuild confidence, and move toward long-term healing and safety.

Beyond her clinical work, Angela is the founder of PAWSitive Helpers, a program that partners hard-to-place shelter dogs with at-risk youth to cultivate emotional growth, empathy, and rehabilitation. She continues to facilitate these groups through Midland’s Juvenile Justice Center while partnering with local rescue organizations to help dogs transition into permanent homes.

As the new owner of Brighter Horizons Counseling, Angela is committed to honoring and expanding the clinic’s long-standing mission. Her vision is to uphold the practice’s strong foundation of compassion and clinical excellence while enhancing services, improving access, and strengthening community partnerships to meet evolving local needs.

The new name—Brighter Horizons Counseling—reflects this evolution. As services, team, and approach have grown, the updated identity represents an expanded, modern, and collaborative direction for the practice, while preserving the values and relationships established over the last three decades.
