MyPros Spotlight: Justin McCrory
This spotlight series is from Midland Young Professionals.
Midland Young Professionals (MYPros) is highlighting their MYPros members and what they love about Midland. In this edition, we will get to know Justin McCrory — Leasing & Marketing Consultant at Brooks Estates.
Justin has called Midland home for three years. Originally from Lapeer, he and his boyfriend were drawn here by the city’s parks, downtown scene, and strong sense of community.
“I’m very community-driven. I like to be part of something,” he said. “When I saw the investment Midland had put into its infrastructure and Downtown, I felt like I could invest myself here too.”
At Brooks Estates, Justin works with the property manager to run the community and conduct tours, while also serving as a social media strategist for multiple MRD Apartment properties. Beyond leasing, he also connects people to Midland.
“When people come into the city, they might be from Atlanta, from California, from India, Dubai, anywhere, coming to Midland for the first time,” he said. “We tell them about Tunes by the Tridge and the live music in the plaza and what The Commons is.
“I try to encourage the residents to get out there, I try to show them what they can see. Because I didn't have that experience at first when I was working remotely. So, I try to breathe that life into people who are new to the community.”
When he’s not at work, you’ll likely find Justin exploring Barstow Woods with his dog or enjoying community events downtown. He loves the city’s walkability and bikeability and its proximity to other great places, like the waterfront in Bay City.
“I feel like there's a little sprinkle of everything for everyone here,” he said. “No matter who you are or where you come from, everybody can bond over a great beer from Three Bridges and listen to some Jedi Mind Trip.”
Justin also appreciates Midland’s vision statement and how the community is actively working towards a brighter future.
“I see the forward vision and I think that it’s truly happening,” he said. “Everybody always wants to have a mission statement, but I genuinely see the heart of Midland going forward with that aligned vision and I feel responsible for that. I think we're all stewards of pushing that vision together.”
Justin has found MYPros to be one of the best ways to grow both professionally and personally.
“When I go to WakeUp and a CEO shakes my hand and says he's seen our videos that we do at Brooks, it’s amazing,” he said. “I think that MYPros is like a bulletin board of the community, where you can choose which events to go to, different experiences to have and discover new information.
“The value that you get from MYPros is insurmountable. I mean $30 a year and you're getting so much opportunity and exposure that you probably couldn't organically.”
His advice to other young professionals? Stay open to new experiences.
“I think young people should join MYPros because they're open and willing and ready to engage in new opportunities, new perspectives and experiences,” he said. “I never cared about golf, but because of MYPros I went to the Dow Championship. So many things that I never would have done because I was in my own world. But when I joined MYPros, it opened up a whole world of spaces that I never would have been in before.”
Do you have a Midland County story you would like to tell that aligns with our vision?
