The Midland Firefighters Youth Foundation hosts a St. Baldrick's event in mid-April
The St. Baldrick Foundation is a nationwide organization that raises money for childhood cancer research. The money they raise is awarded as grants to research labs worldwide and has raised over $350 million since it began in the early 2000s.
”We have already begun the fundraising process, but it is a public event, and anyone can sign up! There is a waiver for participants under 18 as well. Participants (or 'shavees') have from the time they sign up, to the day of the event, to raise money for their own fundraising goal. Groups of shavees can form teams and have a friendly competition between them, if they want. The Midland Firefighters Youth Foundation receives ZERO kickbacks, funding, or any other kind of financial support for this event; 100% of the proceeds go to the St. Baldrick's Foundation.
The fundraising process begins before the event, as soon as possible. This gives the shavees and other fundraisers more opportunities to raise more money, so the event is more successful. Fundraising ends on the day of the head-shaving event, where the shavees get together and get their heads shaved to make a statement of solidarity to all childhood cancer patients, victims, and survivors.
Our head-shaving event is on Sunday, April 12th. This year, we are meeting at the Boulevard Lounge (316 S Saginaw Rd) in Midland from Noon to 2 pm, and we will be getting our hair cut by the staff from Cooper & Co Salon.”
