Building a Healthy School Year for Midland County Youth

The Midland County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) is hosting its annual Back to School Health Fair on Thursday August 7, 2025 from 12pm-6pm. Due to renovation work at the Midland County Services Building, the health fair will be at the St. Brigid Catholic Church/School gymnasium located across the street from the Midland County Services Building.

New this year, the Kindergarten Oral Health Assessment (KOHA) dental screening is required for children entering kindergarten for the 2025-2026 school year in Midland County.  The Great Lakes Bay Health Centers Mobile Dental Bus will be at the 2025 Back to School Health Fair to provide a no-cost dental screening that meets the KOHA screening requirement.  Please note, any dental services provided beyond KOHA screening will be billed to participating insurance or the individual.  For more information about the KOHA requirements, visit: https://midlandcountymi.gov/Health-KOHA

In addition to dental screening, there will be many other services and resources available to youth and their caregivers:

  • Preschool/kindergarten physicals

  • Lead capillary screening (ages 1-6)

  • Immunizations

  • Fluoride treatment- provided on the dental bus with participating insurance or billed to the individual.

  • Car seat checks (from 1pm-5pm only)

  • Community resources

“Our goal with the Back to School Health Fair is to provide a fun one-stop opportunity for youth to receive the important health screenings and services they need to build a healthy school year,” shares Beverly Pyles, Community Health Services Director at the Midland County Department of Public Health.

There will be no out-of-pocket cost for the services provided at the health fair, unless otherwise stated. Some services will be billed to insurance for those that are insured. Attendees should bring their health insurance card (if insured).

Registration is available on the day of the event beginning at 12pm in the St. Brigid gymnasium, located at 207 Ashman Street in Midland, MI.  Children that register for services on the day of the event will be eligible to enter a raffle to win a prize. Prizes include a ride wristband for the Midland County Fair.

The health fair is a collaborative partnership with Early Head Start and Head Start.  Event organizers would like to extend our sincere thanks to St. Brigid Catholic Church & School for donating their gymnasium for the 2025 Back to School Health Fair
