MyPros Spotlight: Kirsten Dean
This spotlight series is from Midland Young Professionals.
Midland Young Professionals (MYPros) is highlighting their MYPros members and what they love about Midland. In this edition, we will get to know Kirsten Dean - owner of MI Caring Hands Massage and Wellness LLC.
Kirsten knows the Great Lakes Bay Region well. She moved to Midland three years ago from Frankenmuth and opened her business in Bay City before relocating it to Midland last November.
Kirsten is a licensed massage therapist and offers therapeutic and relaxation massages, facial massages, hot stones, hot bamboo, cupping, Reiki and more. She spent her whole life watching her mom practice Reiki, which peaked her interest in following a similar career path.
“I always knew that I wanted to do something that was beneficial to people and figure out how to help people in some way,” she said. “One day, it just kind of clicked that massage and Reiki go really well together - they're super complimentary.”
In her free time, she enjoys getting out in nature, especially at Dow Gardens or down by the Tridge.
Kirsten first heard of MYPros while attending WakeUp! Midland and knew it was exactly the kind of group she had been looking for.
“I found out about MYPros from Kathleen, from Made Up Media,” she said. “I was looking for a cooperative network of more younger professionals that are not necessarily from big companies. All the people from small businesses—or those who own small businesses—in MYPros are just the most interesting people.”
She enjoys being in MYPros as a way to meet other small businesses and to attend events that are low stress.
“MYPros offers a really nice and no pressure place to meet up and get to know everybody else and see what they're doing,” she said.
She thinks it’s important for small business owners or employees, in particular, to join MYPros to combat the loneliness and stress of their work.
“I work by myself - I don't have any coworkers or anything - so it can be kind of lonely,” she said. “There's not a lot of people in my personal life that understand the small business aspect of my life. I have to do the accounting, bookkeeping, the marketing, all of it. It's so much more than just massage.”
