MyPros Spotlight: Emily Bolesky

This spotlight series is from Midland Young Professionals.

Midland Young Professionals (MYPros) is highlighting their MYPros members and what they love about Midland. In this edition, we will get to know Emily Bolesky - an HR consultant at Allied HR Solutions

Emily, a native Midlander, has worked at Allied HR for three years, starting just a couple of years after they opened. While she was born and raised in Midland, she is actually a dual citizen of the U.S and Germany - where her mother is from. Her parents met in Germany while her father was in the Army.

“It’s actually very cool because we have quite a few immigrants in MYPros, so it makes you realize that Midland, alone, is a melting pot of different cultures,” Emily said.

As an HR consultant, Emily specializes mainly in helping nonprofits. She can do a variety of tasks including performance reviews, disciplinary items, training and professional development. She, and the other consultants at Allied HR, can be hired to take the place of a traditional HR team at a company or they can be used for additional aid when needed.

Emily believes there are many things for young adults to do in Midland and she participates in lots of things herself. She always enjoys a trip to the Midland Center for the Arts to see their shows and exhibits. She also loves Midland’s history and is always down for a tour of the Alden B Dow Home & Studio.

One of her favorite parts of the city is Downtown Midland where she often takes her dog on walks and hangs out in The Commons, especially in the summer.

“I’m just interested in anything,” Emily said. “I’m always looking for something to do. It’s really easy to stay busy in Midland.”

If there is one thing Emily would like to see change in Midland’s future, it would be a bigger push for more and different public transportation options.

Whether it’s ride-hailing services like Uber and Lyft or even a fixed bus route, Bolesky believes more transportation options will help Midland grow in the future and create a more connected and accessible community.

“In HR alone, we see a lot of people who struggle to commute to work, and having Uber, Lyft or even a bus, I think can help connect people,” she explained. “We have a lot of great things to see. We just have to find a way to get our people there.”

Emily joined the MYPros as a way to connect with the other young professionals in Midland and said her favorite part of the program is just making new friends.

“It's really hard to make friends as an adult,” she said. “As a young adult, when you start your career, it can feel really lonely. In college, you have classes and sports - you have that structure - but as an adult in your professional life, it's a huge adjustment.”

MYPros makes it “easy to connect,” Emily said through the program’s various events throughout the year. The program offers events for everyone from early risers to night owls, and everything in between.

“MYPros makes it really easy to connect with people that have similar interests, and are in your age range or generation,” she said. “It's a really unique way to bring people together, and kind of cure the loneliness that can feel in your early 20’s…We need things like MYPros or the MBA, like, that's most of my social life.”

Emily encourages all young professionals in Midland to join the MYPros, not only to connect and make new friends, but also to just grow their network. Whether you’re seeking new clients or maybe you’re in need of a good or service, MYPros can provide the connection you need to any industry.

“Your network is your net worth,” Emily concluded. “You learn a lot about different industries…We've gotten new clients from just talking about our businesses at events.

“But also, we know who to call. If you are in your everyday life, and you're like, ‘Oh my gosh, I'm turning 26, how do I get health insurance?’ I can say ‘Hannah over here sells insurance. She's a great person to talk to.’ So, you're learning a lot about your community and the different industries that are around your community, and you can use them on a weekly basis.”

Now that you’ve gotten to know Emily, don’t be a stranger! If you spot her at one of our events, go say hi—she doesn’t bite, promise. Hopefully having a friendly face around gives you that extra nudge to come hang out with us!
