MyPros Spotlight: Jessica Blewett

This spotlight series is from Midland Young Professionals.

Midland Young Professionals (MYPros) is highlighting their MYPros members and what they love about Midland. In this edition, we will get to know we sat down with Jessica Blewett - Fund Development & Outreach Coordinator at The Legacy Center for Community Success

Blewett has lived in Midland for the last 11 years. She originally started in Midland at the Center for the Arts before working several years in insurance at various agencies. She moved on to The Boy Scouts before coming to The Legacy Center a few years ago.

As the fund development director, she engages with donors and sponsors and organizes fundraisers for The Legacy Center. Two of the largest events she coordinates are the annual luncheon and the Gus Macker tournament in Downtown Midland.

On the outreach side, Jessica gets out in the community to connect and engage with people.

“I'm continuously building relationships in the community for The Legacy Center to help bring us out into the community and have people understand what we do,” she said.

In her role, Jessica also runs the Coalition for Substance Free Resiliency - a group focused on substance use disorder prevention in the community.

One of Jessica’s favorite places to go in Midland is Downtown where she enjoys hanging out with friends and family in the Pedestrian Plaza.

“There's a lot of good things to do in Midland,” she said. “I like to go Downtown with my family and friends, especially in the summer, and enjoy the common space...We really don't need anything. I feel like we have everything because Downtown has really taken off and the mall is getting better. It’s very family-oriented.”

Jessica’s favorite part of being in the MYPros is the opportunity to meet and connect with new people.

“It’s fun to see people that I don't know yet, because after you've been here 11 years and you've done all the things, it's like, ‘Oh, I don't know you. You're cool,’” she said.

In addition to meeting new people, Jessica said joining the MYPros is important for any young professional to make connections they might need one day.

“You can establish connections with people that might lead you to future endeavors and you can get to know the town better through different sets of eyes,” she said.
