MyPros Spotlight: Kathleen Haney
This spotlight series is from Midland Young Professionals.
Midland Young Professionals (MYPros) is highlighting their MYPros members and what they love about Midland. In this edition, we will get to know Kathleen Haney - owner of Made Up Media.
Kathleen, originally from Saginaw, has lived in Midland for over 12 years. In January 2024, she launched her own marketing and design business focused on helping small businesses improve their brand, website, social media, and graphic design.
“I noticed there were people doing great work in our community, but their online presence didn’t match,” she expressed. “You know, their website would be out of date or their social media hadn’t been posted on in six months.”
Kathleen is passionate about supporting small business owners who often juggle doing everything on their own.
“Small business owners struggle because they have so many tasks they have to do,” she said. “I felt like I could kind of come in and support them with some of those tasks, so that we could highlight the good work that they’re doing and make it easier for people to find them and connect with them.
“You can feel a real sense of belonging in your community when you are connected to the people in it and the places. I wanted to be part of helping people create those connections.”
You can find Kathleen all over town as she loves to frequent the local coffee shops and take nature walks in Midland’s variety of outdoor spaces, including Eagle Ridge and Dow Gardens.
Kathleen also loves Midland for the MYPros and appreciates the group for creating a space where young people can easily connect.
“My favorite part of being a MYPros is connecting with other young people who are active in the community. It’s creating a space for people just to have conversations and get to know each other in a really casual way,” she said.
Kathleen also appreciates that MYPros are open to all people, rather than being focused on specific hobbies or interests.
“It’s like, if you eat and drink food, you can come hang out,” she said. “It’s so welcoming and everybody is willing to chat.”
She encourages all young professionals to join the MYPros to meet new people that could become great friends or even just collaborators.
“It's such a great way to connect with other people who are in the community,” she said. “I think it's so important because some of the young people are staying home and connecting through digital media. I just see the value of in person connection. I can't emphasize enough that there's no replacement for being in community with people, physically.”
So now that you know Kathleen, don’t be a stranger! If you see her at an event, say hello. Hopefully having a friendly face around gives you that extra nudge to come hang out with us!
