1in6 Support Receives Grant from Midland Community Foundation to Support Work With Families of Children With Disabilities
1in6 Support, a nonprofit focusing on supporting families of children with disabilities, is pleased to announce that it has been selected to receive a grant from the Midland Area Community Foundation’s Community Investment Fund. The Midland Area Community Foundation exists to cultivate the power of giving within our Midland community, support long-term transformation, and help ensure all residents thrive. Funding received through this grant will support 1in6 Support’s programmatic community work, including hosting free, accessible support groups and events for families of children with disabilities.
“We are so honored to receive this investment in our community from the Midland Area Community Foundation,” said Iris Mehler, the Co-Executive Director of 1in6 Support, and an expert in helping families navigate the challenges and the joys that come with raising children with disabilities. “Our efforts address the ongoing isolation that families can experience when caring for a child with disabilities. Our support group model and carefully curated events work to provide community for families who are facing medical, behavioral, financial, educational, and therapeutic stressors. We appreciate that the Midland Community Foundation recognizes the tremendous impact on the quality of life for our families that our organization has.” Through the Midland Area Community Foundation’s partnership with 1in6 Support, their support group model will continue to serve the community, along with guest speakers who will present topics of interest, including disability rights, education, advocacy, and long-term planning.
1in6 Support offers accessible, no cost support groups every Friday in Midland for parents and caregivers of children with disabilities, and recently launched a community forum on their website so that families can find insight, empathy, and advice online. 1in6 Support also provides speaker services and consulting for organizations on a range of topics related to families with disabilities.
1in6 Support is a non-profit providing support, resources, and advocacy for families of children with disabilities, communities, and organizations. With active events and support in multiple regions of the United States, 1in6 Support centers families in everything they do.
